Monument to Ahalteke Horses
This is a prominent sculptural composition located in the center of Ashgabat, dedicated to the famous Ahalteke horses, which are a national symbol of Turkmenistan.
Location & Context: The monument is situated on a major park alley in the capital's centre. The area is considered one of the oldest and longest park zones in Ashgabat .
Commemorative Significance: The monument was established to honor the Ahalteke horse, known historically as the "Akhal-Teke" and famously referred to as the "Ferghana horse" or "blood-sweating horse" in ancient Chinese records . In Turkmen culture, there is a saying: "Water is our life, the horse is our wings, and the carpet is our soul," reflecting the animal's high status . The national emblem of Turkmenistan also features the image of a golden Ahalteke horse named Yanardag .

Renovation (2020): The monument underwent significant renovation works in early 2020. Then-President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov personally inspected the reconstruction .

Lighting Effect: A unique technical requirement was set for the renovation: the modern lighting system was designed to ensure each horse in the sculptural composition is lit in the color typical for Ahalteke horses (specifically, a metallic golden hue) .

Proximity to Equestrian Center: The monument is located near the main Ahalteke Equestrian Complex, where the President often visits. In 2021, a foal named "Ashgabat" was born there from the legendary horse Akhan .
Visitor Experience: The monument is a staple stop on city tours of Ashgabat. It is often listed alongside other major landmarks such as the Constitution Monument and the Independence Monument .
